Columbia Steel has extensive experience serving customers who operate tracked mining shovels in all types of mining and excavation applications. In the 1970’s, as shovels became larger, and undercarriage stresses increased, we pioneered the use of high strength martensitic steels for drive sprockets and crawler shoes.

Crawler Shoes. We offer crawler shoes (track pads) for all sizes of mining shovels, and are specialists in larger machines. Columbia engineers design our shoes to our own standards, which we believe results in stronger crawler shoes (or track pads). Our H-series high strength steel alloys are through-hardened and resist abrasion without work hardening. They do not cold flow, which maintains track pitch longer and eliminates the need for arcing to remove metal flow. Columbia Steel crawler shoes offer the best of design and alloy choice the industry has to offer.

Drive Sprockets and Idlers. We cast these large and complex parts from H-series steel for the best combination of hardness and toughness. Precision machined splines are guaranteed for proper fit.

Racking and Pinions. Our tough manganese steel parts fit well and give long life.

Bucket components. We can produce virtually any component for buckets, from wear plates to complete assemblies.

Teeth and Adapters. Columbia offers a full range of dipper teeth and adapters in various styles suited to the penetration demands of the pit. Columbia high strength steel teeth are available with Xtend® high carbide surfacing, which can significantly reduce abrasive wear and increase tooth life.
